and then the exclamation point
quotation marks are undesirable but sometimes necessary
on apostrophes, i'm split:
love the way to shorten words (contractions) but hate the possessives
colons are perfunctory
(hence boring)
dashes are quite nice when properly used
parentheses, love them
equal signs within words, hate them
